Judah Food Bank 312 N. Glenn Enlish Cordell, OK 73632 |
The Judah Food Bank is a not for profit organization that supplies groceries to the low-income and middle-income families of Washita Count once a month. Since it’s inception in the fall of 2002, the food bank has helped to feed thousands of families. The food and supplies we distribute come from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Feed The Children, Bar-S Foods Co. and personal donations. We also operate Thee Thrift Store, which is located in the same building. People, all across Washita County, have donated the items sold in “Thee Thrift Store”. The proceeds from “Thee Thrift Store”, as well as donations made to the food bank, help to pay for the food, utilities and rent. No one working in the food bank or “Thee Thrift Store” is paid; they volunteer their time and effort to give a helping hand to their friends and neighbors.
A Message from Elizabeth Newman, Founder
My husband, Jim and I have raised 5 children and now have 11 grandchildren. Many times while raising our children, we found only crumbs to eat. We both worked full time jobs but the money was not enough to pay the bill, keep the car and appliances working, food and clothe us all and take care of whatever crisis occurred, much less afford recreational activities. If only there had been a food bank to help ease our burdens. |
